What you really want to do during summer is sit out on your back porch wearing a flowy cotton sleeveless sundress drinking giant glasses of ice water while you watch your kid run joyfully though the sprinklers. Then you want to walk him up to the neighborhood pool in your flip flops, pulling him behind you in a wagon loaded with freshly washed towels, tasty chicken salad sandwiches in a bright white cooler and some pool noodles for fun. You want to go to the beach and push your sleeping child down the boardwalk in a stroller while you walk with your husband eating dairy cream soft serve ice cream and watching fireworks over the water. You want to eat Jungle Fries from Kings Dominion from the big paper tub, sprinkled liberally with salt and wash it down with a limeade from Bill's Barbecue. You want to play in the river in jean shorts and an old t-shirt and feel your feet stand on the smooth rocks. You want to put the top down on the convertible and find your sunglasses somewhere in a drawer and cruise down Boulevard. You want to grill out on the back porch barefoot. You want to walk into the icy cool mall and shiver as you leave the humidity behind.
That's your perfect vision of summer. Maybe this year you'll make it come true.
Try this at home:
What's your perfect summer day?
