Some people like labels. And that's okay. You gotta spend your money on something. Maybe it's like with wine. The more it costs, the better people think it tastes. But you are not a label snob.
You could be.
In an alternate reality where you were a six foot tall blond size two, you could get veryyyyyy into labels. You'd go to small snooty boutiques where prim saleswomen would bring out matching outfits while you sat on an ottoman sipping tea and munching on lettuce wedges and your gay husband booked a flight to Marrakesh on his cell phone. (You're channeling a cross between Real Housewives of New York and Pretty Woman here.)
But alas and alack, you are only 5'4 and you are definitely not a size two, and thankfully your husband is not gay (so you hope) and you do not even like lettuce wedges unless they arrive next to some ranch dressing. So shopping for you is a different kind of experience. Basically, if it looks good on you, you will buy it.
This sounds very easy. You have a friend on whom just about EVERYTHING looks good. She is tall and slender and you hate her! (Not really. But that sounded very dramatic.)
But on you? Not so much. You can bring 20 shirts into the dressing room, loaded down on your arms like bales of hay, and you're lucky if one or two don't make you look like a Russian peasant woman. So when one shirt doesn't make you look either pregnant or six weeks postpartum, you'll snap it up whether it's nine dollars or ninety.
That's why you love Jacque Penney. That's right! Say it loud and proud. JC Penneys rocks! Some people, they don't like the Jacque Penney. How suburban. How middle America. To them you say, Zut Alors! (You just wanted to say that. You don't even know what it means, but you're going with the French theme here.) Jacque Penney has clothes sized shall we say generously. You never have to worry that the 14 won't fit. Also, everything is cheap. You can get five shirts for the price of one at Nordstroms and if your kid smears strawberries on it or you accidently put your blues in with your blacks, it's not the end of the world.
To the label lovers of the world, you say, "Give it a try. Once you go Jacque, you'll never go back(que)!"
Try this at home:
When it comes to clothes, are you a quantity or a quality kind of person?

"Zut alors" means something akin to "Oh darn" or "Oh shit". Synge can correct me if I'm wrong.
