How to Find Something You Love About Yourself

In this case, it's your hair. People always come up to you and ask you where your son gets his red hair and you want to give them dirty looks. "Hellooooo, people! Do you not see this auburn hair," you want to say. But you don't. Instead you've taken to telling them that he gets it from the milkman.

You've always loved your hair. Okay. Not always. There was a period of time when you hated you hair when you were ten and chubby with glasses and your mom took you to your grandfather's Greek barber who gave you a pixie cut and said it was the newest style in Greece. You cried and you must have really looked awful because your mother took you out and bought you new clothes to try and make you look better. For the next year strangers called you "young man." Even when you wore pink.

After that you would never cut your hair short, and even now after having your son you have not yet succumbed to the "Mommy Do." Your hair is still long and comes to halfway down your back when it's blown out straight.

What you really love about your hair is the color. It looks brown at first, but in the sunlight all the red comes out and you can see it is a true auburn. It's a color that a lot of people would dye for. It's wavy, and sometimes you love the wave, but sometimes you're happy to have your Chi so it can look straight and sexy. It's thick but not too thick and easy to wear in a ponytail or up in a loose bob. Your mother just turned 66 and the gray is just beginning to creep into her hair, so hopefully you will have your beautiful color for a long time.

Your son takes after his dad almost entirely. He's a mini-Marc. When you look at his face you only see yourself in a look or two...the way he squints or the pissed off grimace he gives when he's in a bad mood. But then you look at his red, red hair, and you know that is all you. That's what you love best of all.
