When you're constantly trying to avoid the fat monster, you've got to keep your eyes open to new ways to burn calories, build muscle and have a good time doing it. The treadmill and elliptical machine can only take you so far. Approximately nowhere in fact, since they are both stationary pieces of gym equipment! Leslie Sansone's Walk Aerobics are fine when you're just starting out, but get a bit dull after the 5 billionth time and when you're after something more challenging than the same ole senioriffic grapevine. And Billy Blanks? Yeah. Tae Bo is so 90s!
Step? Tried it. Hated it. The step itself places you one step away from the emergency room from when you fall over it smashing your pretty face into the floor. Aquacize? Sweating in the water is not for you.
So be really excited when your gym gets a new Zumba class! Run into class late, having thoroughly confused the start time and after dragging your kid to the babysitting. Smile at your friend across the room and immediately jump into the mix. Women young and old are shaking their hips and cha cha-ing , salsa-ing and merengue-ing to the beat. Right leg front and then back. Turn your waist. Kick your feet. Arms in a circle. Arms in a bow and arrow. And before you know it, you're smiling while your sweating, learning new moves, having a great time and burning calories to boot.
It's fun to do something new that's healthy for you too. You'll be back next week for another hour of Zumba.
Try this at home:
What was the last new adventure you had?
