How to Meet Up With Old Friends

Always love your old friends. They are the ones who know you best. They are the ones who loved you when you were awkward (not that you're so graceful now) and wore ugly glasses and had your hair cut so short people confused you for a boy. They are the ones you had so many firsts with. First days of school. You got sick to your stomach. Your friend curled in a fetal position beside her bed. First bar mitzvahs, all of you in hideous pink and champagne dresses with bows to the sides of your waists. All dancing off step to the electric slide and making water worms out of soda straws. First crushes and first ridiculous phone calls to boys' houses, hanging up in giggles when they actually answered. Mornings spent in pajamas together eating cereal in front of the TV. The closest kind of thing to a sister you will ever have.

Somehow all the posing can melt away with them and you can just be yourself. Which is such a nice thing. Why would you want to be anyone else but just yourself?

Be grateful that you still love your old friends. Be grateful that you had just as good a time with them as ever. Be grateful that you wished you had more time, but the visit was too short--your plane would not wait.

Try this at home:
Who is your oldest friend? What does he or she know about you that no one else does?
