How to Wake Up Early

Kiss your husband goodbye with a groggy mouth. He's leaving for four days, and it's just you and the kid. Glance at the clock and realize you've got a good hour of sleep left. It's still dark out. You could fall back into your remodeling dream that you love so much. But the sleep won't come, so stretch out in the big bed. Move your limbs against the cotton. Shove your arms under the cool pillows. Listen to the cat purr in your ear as he's snuggled against your head. Let your thoughts turn to all your wants and desires. Push the fears and worries away and look forward to what this day will bring.

Hear the front door close. You're practically alone now. So get up and gather your clothes. Your sneakers. Hit the elliptical and turn on the iphone to watch a film about some rich lady and her butler that you taped from HBO. Sweat for a while and watch the sun come up outside your window while your child sleeps. Be glad to get this chore out the way so you have your day to yourself guilt free.

Get off the elliptical and take a quick, hot shower. Nothing like a post exercise shower to make you feel invigorated, fresh and happy. Grab a cup of coffee, and take the dog out into the mild, March air--so fine you can wear flip flops at 7AM. So much for the lion. We've gone straight to the lamb.

And finally you hear your child stir, calling out for his mommy in his crib. He cheerfully greets you and reaches out for a hug.

If only every morning could be like this.

Try this at home:
What does a great start to your day look like?
