How to Babysit

You were never really a babysitter as a teenager. You babysat with a few friends back in middle school, but you were the tagalong, not the actual sitter. And before having your son, you were actually kind of afraid of kids. Now you're not afraid of kids anymore, but the idea of having to discipline someone else's kid makes you nervous. This is pretty much the reason you hated teaching.

Today you babysat for a friend. It was way fun. Your kid was superexcited to have a friend over and you got to hang out and enjoy it. Watching the two kids play, you realized that it was kind of what it would be like if you had two kids close together. They could amuse each other and you could just sit on the couch a watch them (and referee). Unfortunately, that ship has sailed, so you just mused about the lost possibilities.

Your friend's kid didn't seem to hate you and think you were a mean babysitter, and no one got his or her eye poked out with a stick, so ultimately it was a very successful morning! Now you feel like a semi-competent babysitter and you can compete with the 14 year old down the street for petty cash. Oh yeah!

Try this at home:
Did you have a favorite babysitter as a kid?
